Social Networking: Sharing Your Life

By the End of the Session you will:
  • Know the terminology: social networking, facebook, myspace, twitter, tweet, retwteet (RT), direct message (DM), mobile device, app, etc.
  • Know at least 5 uses for these tools: personal, professional, or academic
  • Be signed up for a Twitter account, have tweeted, and following one of each of the above topics
  • Have tweeted about: the most interesting item you learned about in social networking today, one way you might use social networking in your personal life, professional life, and classroom
Social Networking is many things:
  • Interaction between a group of people who share a common interest
  • A broad class of web sites and services that allow you to connect with friends, family, and colleagues online
  • Interactive communication in which participants in online communities such as Facebook share thoughts, photos, etc.
  • A way to make our disconnected world a little more personal

Social Networking is a new(er) term. It is not a new idea. The tools may have become easier to use, but the concepts have been around for decades:
